"It’s quiet, or at least as quiet as a Pacific Northwest beach can be. And still. The relentless parade of winter storms had paused for the wind to recharge, before it’s next assault on the shore. Diffuse light filtered through low hanging clouds, which allow occasional hints of the sun above. A receding tide had washed all but a very few footsteps from the sand and as I gazed up and down the beach I could not see another soul.
